The Bell Jar is a truly brilliant book and should be on every "To Read List"Unfortunately this particular Study Guide is badly written, containing inaccurate grammar and spellings. It is merely a chapter by chapter summary of the book and gives no insight or information to further the reading experience.I expected there to be references to the actual people in Plath's life on whom she based her characters in the book.A study guide should surely provide information to further the experience of reading the novel.I suggest that reading a biography of Plath would be much more informative in understanding the novel than the reading of this Study Guide. Giving this review 1 star suggests " I hate it "- this is not really an accurate description, rather I did not find it in any way useful or informative

What was there to study? The guide was just a brief synopsis of the book and badly written too. There was no historical background, textual analysis or critical approach.

A great companion for The Bell Jar and a very interesting read by a wonderful poet who suffered most of her life with deep anxiety.
